There are a lot of Spotify Playlists out there. So many, it's almost impossible to keep up with the good ones.
As I'm constantly looking for good new music, I've been following a couple of playlists for quite some time now that has a good quality of music. Of course I also made my own playlist including 100 tracks I love and want to share with other listeners. It’s weekly updated, so make sure to follow it if you want your weekly dose of the best in Melodic Techno.
Below I’ll highlight the best 5 Playlists that I think are worth following if you are into Melodic Techno.
1. The Afterlife Sound by Mick Smorenburg
As the title suggests, this playlist focuses mainly on sounds that were inspired by Afterlife, the label and concept of Tale of Us. Tracks doesn’t necessarily need do be released on Afterlife or played by Afterlife artists. As long as it fits the vibe of the Spotify Playlist it might get added. This makes sure there is a variety of new tracks to discover from both underground artists and established names.
2. Afterlifesounds || Selective by Sam Harlaar
As an owner of the Instagram page Afterlifesounds, it was a pretty logical step for Sam to also create a Spotify Playlist where he could share the amazing music in a Spotify Playlist. With his Instagram page he is doing a great job of sharing teasers from new releases and live videos of cool tracks being played. With this playlist he adds extra value to the artists he is supporting on his Instagram page.
3. The Boom Room Selected by Jochem Hamerling
The Boom Room is a very popular Dutch Radioshow on SLAM! that’s being aired every Saturday from 20.00 till 0.00. Every week consists of a two hours ‘Selected Mix’ and two hours of guests performing live. There used to be a podcast version of the show on Spotify where you could listen back the whole episode, but unfortunately all music podcasts have been removed. Therefore, Jochem decided to create a playlist where he shares the tracks that have been played in The Boom Room. It’s a mixture of Melodic Techno, House and Deep House, so you can find artists like Bicep, Solomun, Maceo Plex, Camelphat, Artbat etc. in one playlist.
4. Electronic Rising by Spotify
The curators of Spotify have a though job, listening to all the tracks that come in through the Artist Spotify platform and making a selection out of all the submissions. For the Electronic Rising playlist they do a pretty good job, as I often find some very cool music in here. They give it an update every week, so there’s always some fresh music to discover. The genres vary from Electronica to Techno and everything in between.
5. Beatport Top 100 Melodic House & Techno Tracks by nightgen
Beatport is still one of the most important stores for Dance Music and it’s very easy to see what tracks are popular because of the Beatport Charts. The Charts basically tell which tracks are bought the most, so it’s a good reflection of what DJ’s are actually liking and want to play out during gigs or - in this Corona quarantine period - livestreams. This playlist automatically adds tracks that enter the Top 100 of Melodic House & Techno on Beatport. For me, it’s an easy way of being updated on what’s happening on Beatport.
If you have any other suggestions of good Melodic Techno playlists on Spotify I might not know of, let me know in the comments!
